Over the past several days, I have spent a lot of time recounting found memories of Whitney Houston and have decided to compile them here because honestly that’s what Tumblr’s for…
- Begging my parents for a dollar every time we visited the Snellville Pizza Hut so I could play “I Get So Emotional” on the jukebox. I felt this song really described what it was like to wait for a personal pan pizza.
- Ordering Whitney Houston’s self titled album, Whitney Houston, from BMG Music Club
- Singing “One Moment in Time” for our 4th Grade Chorus Year-end Concert complete with signed gestures
- Spending an entire summer choreographing a concert to The Bodyguard soundtrack on our back deck. Toughest number? “Queen of the Night”
- Disobeying my parents and staying up to watch The Bodyguard on HBO
- Sneaking a VHS tape into the living room VCR to record The Bodyguard on HBO after having seen it the first time.
- Proclaiming to my parents after seeing The Bodyguard five times that it was my second favorite movie of all time and I thought there banning of the movie was censorship of free speech. This movie had lessons about love to teach the masses.
- Making everyone I knew in high school watch The Bodyguard at least once
- Being pissed as hell I didn’t see The Preacher’s Wife opening weekend
- Having a love/hate relationship with her hit song “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” from the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack
- Trying to convince myself the entire summer before my senior year of high school that I didn’t like “It’s not Right but It’s Okay” – “Uh! I hate this song!” [as I turn up the volume]
- Trading Silverchair’s Neon Ballroom for a copy of Whitney Houston’s My Love is Your Love
- Buying Whitney Houston’s Greatest Hits the summer after graduating high school and hating the “Throwdown” side of the CD due to the fact the remixes wrecked her greatest dance songs
- Discovering one week after purchase that Whitney Houston’s Greatest Hits “Thowndown” CD is amazeballs
- Listening to the “Greatest Love of All” after watching American Psycho
- Dancing endless Wednesday nights at Boneshakers in Athens to “How Will I Know”
- Having a dance party to Whitney Houston’s greatest hits in the apartment I pay for with my own money
- Dancing with “somebody” to “I Want to Dance with Somebody” at Little Kings Shuffle Club the last night of 2011
- Not being ashamed to say I <3 Whitney Houston. Miss you gurl.
